Ghost Battles
Made in 3 hours for Trijam #49: Death is not the end.
The finished product is very buggy! For a less buggy version with fewer features implemented, go here: https://ghost-battle-alternate.now.sh . At that point I had 40 minutes left until the end, so I started rushing!
Tools/approach:
The first hour-ish was spent making the sprites in an app called iDesigner. It's a lovely, beginner friendly vector art app, but I couldn't find it again when I tried to find a link.
The remaining 2 hours, with a break in the middle, was on the code. I used React. It's a front-end javascript framwork, not a game engine, so I wasn't sure whether it would work well for games. It went surprisingly well! Despight the many bugs, I felt I was able to accomplish a lot in the short time. I will continue to use React if I end up developing this project further.
Also! The simple animations (shake for attack, fade in of ghosts) were done using css. I didn't know what I was doing, but I was able to get the approximate effects I wanted pretty easily. Would reccomend!
